- A former amateur champion, he made his professional debut in January 2008 and wrestled for Isegahama stable, one of the more successful stables in sumo today.
- He reached the top makuuchi division for the first time in May 2013.
- His highest rank was maegashira 6.
- He retired in 2019 to become an elder of the Japan Sumo Association under the name Tateyama.
