About Wan Mokhtar
- Wan Mokhtar bin Wan Ahmad was the Menteri Besar (Chief Minister) of the Malaysian state of Terengganu from 1974 to 1999.
- He held the seat of Cukai in the Terengganu State Legislative Assembly for the same period, as a member of the United Malays National Organisation (UMNO) in the Barisan Nasional coalition.
- He is Terengganu's longest-serving chief minister. Wan Mokhtar was an ally of the similarly long-serving Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad.
- In 1987 he was elected a national vice-president of UMNO, alongside Anwar Ibrahim, on Mahathir's ticket.His tenure as Chief Minister and a state assemblyman came to an end at the 1999 election, when the Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party took control of both the state assembly and Wan Mokhtar's seat in a landslide victory.Wan Mokhtar's son, Wan Abdul Hakim, was elected to the Terengganu state assembly in 2008.
