About Hajime Tanabe

  • Hajime Tanabe (?? ?, Tanabe Hajime, February 3, 1885 – April 29, 1962) was a Japanese philosopher of the Kyoto School.
  • In 1947 he became a member of Japan Academy, in 1950 he received the Order of Cultural Merit, and in 1957 an honorary doctorate from University of Freiburg. He was born in Tokyo.
  • His father was the school principal of Kaisei Academy.
  • He enrolled in the university of Tokyo first as a natural sciences student, then moved to literature and philosophy.
  • After graduation, he worked in Tohoku University as a lecturer.
