About Edvard Ravnikar

  • Edvard Ravnikar (4 December 1907 – 23 August 1993) was a Slovenian architect.
  • Ravnikar was born in Novo Mesto and was a student of architect Jože Plecnik.
  • Later, he led the new generation of Slovene architects, notable for developing the Slovene architecture field's infrastructure, organizing architectural competitions etc.
  • He was a professor at the Ljubljana School of Architecture.
  • He also promoted Scandinavian architectural style in Slovenia, particularly Finnish achievements in architecture accomplished by those such as Alvar Aalto.
  • His most notable creations feature prominently in Ljubljana, among them Republic Square, Cankar Hall, Maximarket department store, and the Museum of Modern Art.
  • For his work, he received the PreÅ¡eren Award in 1961 and in 1978.
  • He died in Ljubljana, aged 85.
