About Joseph S. Curtis

  • Joseph Seaver Curtis (June 8, 1831 – May 15, 1878) was an American politician and lawyer. Born in Warren, Ohio, Curtis graduated from Williams College.
  • He moved to Green Bay, Wisconsin in 1852 or 1859 and practiced law.
  • During the American Civil War, Curis served as a private in the 12th Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry Regiment and a lieutenant in the 42nd Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry Regiment.
  • He was the editor of the Green Bay Gazette.
  • In 1869, 1871, and 1873, Curtis served in the Wisconsin State Assembly and was a Republican.
  • He campaigned for the Wisconsin State Senate in 1873 but lost to John Milton Read.
  • He died at his home in Green Bay, Wisconsin on May 15, 1878.
