Lucian Iulian Sânmartean (born 13 March 1980) is a Romanian former professional footballer who played as an attacking midfielder or a winger.
Regarded by coach Ioan Sabau as Romania's most talented player after Gheorghe Hagi, he has often been praised for his exceptional passes and uncommon dribbling ability, and received the Romanian Footballer of the Year award in 2014.
However, much of his career was marked by injuries.
Sânmartean gained his first cap for Romania in November 2002, at age 22.
