He obtained power in the Cartel's military wing, hence he was accused of being responsible for hundreds of murders.

He was a hitman, boss of hitmen and leader of a criminal group known as Los Priscos, which was at Cartel's disposal .

== Criminal career == childhood, he lived in the Medellin commune, more specifically in the town Lovaina.
He was born to an extremely poor family.
Being twelve years old, he became a thief, then was a member of a gang and finally became a hitman when being 15 years old .
Regarding how he became a member of the Cartel, there is a story stating that one day he went out to steal at a park near the cemetery San Pedro, where he stole a music player of a car that belonged to Pablo Escobar.
One of Pablo's men started asking around on who had the thief and found it was Pinina.
Since he liked Pinina's skills to steal the music player, he informed Pablo Escobar of it, who then asked Pinina to be a member of the Cartel .
Arias had a vast knowledge on the people living in the commune, which allowed him to recruit members for murder-for-hire.
For instance, the first assassination ordered by the Medellín Cartel, i.e., the assassination of Rodrigo Lara, was delegated to him, who then hired Byron de Jesús Velásquez, Iván Darío Guizao Álvarez and the other member of the gang to commit such assassination in 1984 .
