About Wilhelmina Powlett, Duchess of Cleveland

  • Catherine Lucy Wilhelmina Powlett, Duchess of Cleveland (née Stanhope; 1 June 1819 – 18 May 1901), also known as Lady Dalmeny and Lady Harry Vane, was an English historian and genealogist, best known for her 1889 work The Battle Abbey Roll with some Account of the Norman Lineages.
  • She was the mother of Archibald Primrose, 5th Earl of Rosebery, who was Queen Victoria's prime minister for 15 months from March 1894.
  • In 1837 at the time of Victoria's accession, Lady Wilhelmina was reputedly the most beautiful woman at court.
  • She was a Maid of Honour at the Queen's coronation, and served as a bridesmaid at her wedding to Prince Albert.
