  • He then studied law in Paris, Maine and was admitted to the Maine bar.

  • In 1827 and 1828, Washburn served in the Maine State Senate.
  • In 1829, Washburn served on the Maine Governor's Council.
  • From 1832 to 1835 and 1841, Washburn served in the Maine House of Representatives.
