About William Murphy (boxer)

  • William James "Boy" Murphy (born March 25, 1904, Cork, Ireland - date of death unknown) was an Irish boxer who competed in the 1924 Summer Olympics, in the 1928 Summer Olympics, and in the 1932 Summer Olympics. In 1924 he was eliminated in the quarter-finals of the middleweight class after losing his fight to Leslie Black. Four years later he was eliminated in the quarter-finals of the light heavyweight class after losing his fight to the upcoming silver medalist Ernst Pistulla. His last Olympic appearance was in the 1932 light heavyweight tournament.
  • After winning his first fight to John Miler he was not able to compete in the semi-final as well as in the bronze medal bout, therefore he finished fourth.
