Donald Williams (born 11 September 1966) is a British former field hockey player who competed in the 1992 Summer Olympics.
He was known for his direct play, and in particular his belief that the fastest route to goal was ‘a straight line’.
Some years later he was demonstrating this approach near a cliff edge, and unfortunately misjudged the distance between his stick and the goal and fell off the cliff edge onto the rocks below.
Williams suffered from a broken collar bone, punctured lung, 3 cracked ribs and a broken little finger.
Luckily for him his blackberry was still working, as the tide was coming in, and ‘the Don’ (hockey nickname) was saved.
