Kapi?olani (December 31, 1834 – June 24, 1899) was the queen and consort of Mo?i (king) Kalakaua of the Kingdom of Hawai?i, reigning from 1874 to 1891 until his death when she became known as the Dowager Queen Kapi?olani.
Deeply interested in the health and welfare of the Native Hawaiian people, Kapi?olani established the Kapi?olani Home for Girls, for the education of the daughters of resident of the leprosy settlement at Kalaupapa, and the Kapi?olani Maternity Home, where Hawaiian mothers and newborns could receive care.
