- He was a right-handed batsman and a left-arm medium-pace bowler who played for Bedfordshire.
- He was born in Potton, Bedfordshire. Dean represented Bedfordshire for four seasons in the Minor Counties Championship, and made one Holt Cup appearance in 1991.
- His only List A appearance came during the same season, against Worcestershire.
- He scored a duck and made bowling figures of 2/20, capturing the wickets of Test cricketers Steve Rhodes and Graeme Hick.
