Gareth Porter (born June 18, 1942) is an American historian, investigative journalist, author and policy analyst specializing in U.S.
national security policy.
He was active as a Vietnam specialist and anti-war activist during the Vietnam War.
He has written publications about the potential for peaceful conflict resolution in Southeast Asia and the Middle East, including his 2005 book Perils of Dominance: Imbalance of Power and the Road to War in Vietnam, an analysis of how and why the United States went to war in Vietnam.
