Not to be confused with Geevarghese Gregorios (Perumpally Thirumeni) (1933–1999), a bishop of the Syriac Orthodox Church, President of the Episcopal Synod of the Church in India, President of the Synod of the Malankara Jacobite Syrian Orthodox Church and MetropolitanSaint Geevargese Mar Gregorios, popularly known as Parumala Thirumeni (Bishop of Parumala), (15 June 1848 – 2 November 1902) was a bishop of the Malankara Syrian Church.
He became a deacon at the age of 10, a priest at the age of 18, and a bishop when aged 28.
He died at the age of 54 and was buried at St.
Peter and St.
Paul's Church, Parumala, in Kerala, India.
In 1947, he was declared a saint by the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church, making him the first canonised Christian saint from India.
In 1987, the Syriac Orthodox Church also recognised him as a saint.
