About Stanford Smith
- George Stanford "Stan" Smith (August 13, 1917 – November 16, 2007) was a National Hockey League player for the New York Rangers.
- He was born in Coal Creek, British Columbia. He made his debut in the 1939–40 season, making him one of the first British Columbians to play in the NHL.
- Smith played his first NHL game in the Stanley Cup Finals for the New York Rangers, helping them win the cup.
- He qualified to be included on the cup, but his name was left off by mistake.
- NHL still credits Smith as winning one Stanley Cup.
- The next year he played in eight games regular season games recording three points. Stan Smith died in 2007 in Fernie, BC, where he had resided in retirement.
