About Alan Dowty
- Alan Dowty (born January 15, 1940) is an American author and Professor of Political Science Emeritus, University of Notre Dame.
- He was formerly on the faculty of the Hebrew University (Jerusalem), 1964-1975, Kahanoff Chair Professor of Israel Studies at the University of Calgary, 2003-2006, and President of the Association for Israel Studies, 2005-2007.
- In 2017 he was awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award in Israel Studies by the Association for Israel Studies and the Israel Institute. His recent work focuses on Israeli politics and the Arab-Israeli conflict.Ira Sharkansky of The Hebrew University calls Dowty's "The Jewish State: A Century Later," "the most thorough and sensitive assessment of Israel's democracy that I have seen.".
