Amanda Newton (born 8 April 1977 in London, England) is an English netball player.
Throughout her career, Newton has played mostly goal defence (GD), goal keeper (GK) but also wing defence (WD).
She played netball for her local club OPA and Newham in the London Youth Games.Newton debuted for the seniors English national team in 1996 against Jamaica.
Newton first captained the national team in 2003 in a test series against Jamaica.
But later that year she ruptured her cruciate ligament, and was absent from the national team until 2005.
Newton assumed the role of England captain in 2006, leading the England team in the 2007 Netball World Championships.
In June 2008, Newton announced that she was stepping down as England captain and from the England team.
During her time in the England national team she won two bronze medals, at the 1998 Commonwealth Games and the 1999 Netball World Championships and attended six championships: which one was as a coach.In domestic netball, Newton has recently played with the Mavericks in the Super League.A late starter to the sport due to her athletics commitment and was selected into the U21 squad, where she was fast tracked to seniors.
In 1999, she played in the domestic League Coco-Cola Cup League in New Zealand for the Capital Shakers in Wellington.
She was selected to represent a World Team which combined Australia, England, Jamaica & South Africa players in three match test v New Zealand.
Gained 100 caps playing Internationally.
In 2015, she has been inducted in the London Youth Games Hall of Fame.
At senior level, she is a defensive technical coach and assistant coached on many occasions in major competitions, was also a part of the coaching staff the achieved a Bronze medal in Sydney at the World Netball Championships in 2015.
She recently led the programme for the first junior London franchise, were fourteen members went onto to be a part of the Roses Academy.
As Head Coach her U19 squad won both the National Performance League and National Performance Tournament in 2018.
Alongside this role she was the Franchise Pathway Coach, which identified elite athletes for England Netball.
From 2017-2018 Roses Academy Assistant Coach and toured with side in 2017 to New Zealand.
She is currently a Selector for England Netball Roses Academy and specialist defensive coach.
Delivers positional specific workshops for coaches and school teachers.
She currently coaches in a school in Dubai and remains a part of the Roses Academy Netball Programme.
