  • Charles Ryland Burnett III (June 9, 1956 – January 17, 2018) was born in England but lived in Houston, Texas, most of his life.
  • He graduated from Rice University, achieving a B.S.
  • degree in Chemistry with honors, and was an inventor, living in Houston at the time of his death at age 61.
  • Over his lifetime, he set numerous speed records on land and sea, including the world's fastest steam-powered car, a project which he financed and named "Inspiration." Burnett was a dedicated philanthropist, donating to a wide variety of causes from endowing cancer research to giving funds to the Houston Police Department. Burnett owned a number of restaurants in England and Texas, being a fan of Tex-Mex cuisine.Charles died following the crash of a Bell UH-1 Iroquois in Raton, New Mexico on January 17, 2018.
