About Biff Pocoroba

  • Biff Benedict Pocoroba (born July 25, 1953) is a former Major League Baseball catcher who also played a few games at third base.
  • He was drafted by the Atlanta Braves in the 17th round of the 1971 amateur draft. As a rookie, Pocoroba attracted attention during spring training in 1975 by throwing out 11 straight would-be base stealers.
  • He made his major league baseball debut on April 25, 1975 as a defensive replacement in the Braves' 5–3 loss to the San Diego Padres at San Diego. His best season was in 1977 when he achieved career highs with 123 games, a batting average of .290, 8 home runs, 24 doubles, and 44 runs batted in.
  • In 1978, he made the National League All-Star team, finishing the season with a .242 batting average, 6 home runs and 34 RBIs in 92 games.
  • He played his last game on April 20, 1984 at the age of 30.
