- He was the pitching coach for the Buffalo Bisons, Triple-A affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays, though the 2018 season.
- With the Red Sox one strike away from winning the 1986 World Series, Stanley threw a wild pitch that allowed the New York Mets to score the tying run in Game 6.
- This ironically turned the tables on the Red Sox from what they themselves had done against the California Angels in Game 5 of the American League Championship Series just weeks earlier.
