About Charles Seymour (cricketer)

  • Charles Read Seymour (6 February 1855 - 6 November 1934) was an English cricketer.
  • Seymour was a right-handed batsman. The son of Reverend Charles Frederic Seymour, Rector of Winchfield, Seymour was educated at Harrow, and was later educated at Merton College, Oxford, where he took his B.A.
  • in 1877. Seymour made his first-class debut for the Marylebone Cricket Club in 1879 against Lancashire.
  • This was the only first-class match Seymour played for the club. In 1880 Seymour made his first-class debut for Hampshire against the Marylebone Cricket Club.
  • In 1882 Seymour made his maiden first-class half century against Somerset, with a score of 57.
  • In 1883 Seymour followed this up with his second half century, which yielded him his highest first-class score of 77*.
  • From 1880 to 1885 Seymour represented Hampshire in fifteen first-class matches, with his final first-class match for Hampshire coming against Derbyshire in 1885, which was Hampshire's final season with first-class status until the 1895 County Championship.
  • In his fifteen matches for the club, Frederick scored 485 runs at a batting average of 17.32, with two half centuries and a high score of 77*. Following Hampshire's loss of first-class status, Seymour continued to represent the county until 1888, with his final match for the county coming against Sussex. Seymour died at Winchester, Hampshire on 6 November 1934.
