About Dominic Jacotin Gamble

  • Dominic Jacotin Gamble (15 August 1823 – 21 November 1887) was a New Zealand soldier.
  • Gamble played a major part in preparations for an invasion of Waikato, organizing camps for troops in South Auckland and the construction of the Great South Road. He was commissioned as an ensign in the 4th Foot Regiment in 1844 and served in Crimea during 1855.
  • In 1856, he was promoted to the rank as a major. Gamble left New Zealand in 1867 to return to the United Kingdom, where he served as a quartermaster-general in Aldershot, Hampshire.
  • He died in London on 21 November 1887.
