- He served as the head football coach at Kansas State University from 1960 to 1966 and at Southern Illinois University Carbondale from 1974 to 1975, compiling a career college football record of 11–78–2.
- His Kansas State Wildcats teams posted two of the longest losing streaks in college football history.
