About Edgar Smith (pitcher)

  • Edgar Eugene Smith (June 12, 1862 – November 3, 1892) was an American professional baseball player who played in the outfield and was a pitcher in Major League Baseball from 1883 to 1885 and then again in 1890.
  • He began his career with the 1883 Providence Grays, and played in two games, then later in the season he played in one game for the Philadelphia Quakers.
  • In 1884, he played in 14 games for the Washington Statesmen, and he returned to the Grays for one game.
  • After the 1885 season, he didn't play in the major leagues again until 1890, when he played in eight games for the Cleveland Spiders.
  • Smith died at the age of 30 in his hometown of Providence, Rhode Island, and is interred at the Swan Point Cemetery.
