About Edward Ede Sr.

  • Edward Lee Ede (22 February 1834 – 7 July 1908) was an English first-class cricketer.
  • Ede was a right-handed batsman who bowled right-arm underarm. Edward and his twin brother, George Ede were both educated at Abingdon School, from 1845-1851.
  • Ede made his first-class debut for Hampshire in 1861 against the Marylebone Cricket Club. Ede was a member of the Hampshire county club team that made its first-class debut in 1864 against local rivals Sussex.
  • His twin brother, George also played in this fixture.
  • Ede played in sixteen first-class fixtures for the county club.
  • With his underarm bowling he took 15 wickets at an average of 25.46, with best bowling figures of 4/79.
  • Ede's highest first-class batting score of 49 came against Kent in 1867, with Ede batting at number ten in that innings. Ede's final first-class appearance for Hampshire came against Lancashire in 1870. Ede died in Southampton, Hampshire on 7 July 1908.
