Amanda Simard (born February 27, 1989) is a Canadian politician, who was elected to the Legislative Assembly of Ontario in the 2018 provincial election.
She represents the riding of Glengarry—Prescott—Russell.
Simard was elected as a member of the Progressive Conservative Party of Ontario, and served as Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Francophone Affairs.
After Premier Doug Ford eliminated the province's French-language services commissioner and cancelled plans for a new French language university, she left the party on November 29, 2018, to sit as an independent.
Simard was praised for her defence of her fellow Franco-Ontarians, including by a unanimous resolution of the National Assembly of Quebec.While a student at University of Ottawa, she served as a Page in the Canadian Senate.
Before her election to the legislature, Simard served as municipal councillor for Russell from 2014 to 2018.
Although her occupation has included the one of "lawyer" in the past and the fact she has completed law school, she was never actually called to the bar in Ontario.Simard is fluently bilingual in both French and English.
She maintains a residence in Embrun and enjoys running and yoga.
