He served as a Member of Parliament (MP) for the Tanjong Piai constituency in the State of Johor from 2018 until his death.
Farid was a member of the Malaysian United Indigenous Party or Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (BERSATU), a component of the Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalition.
In July 2018, he was appointed as Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister for the Department for National Unity and Social Harmony.
