About Henry Clay Yerger
- Professor Henry Clay Yerger (born December 4, 1860, near Spring Hill, Arkansas) was the son of Sally Yerger and the stepson of Anthony Yerger. He married Miss Ella J.
- Green and to this union eight children were born, five boys and three girls.
- He came to Hope in 1886 and took charge of the Hope Colored Schools, known as Shover Street Elementary School.
- Yerger obtained his education at Philander Smith College, Little Rock, Arkansas.
- He also studied at Boston University and Hampton Institute, Virginia.
- He was a pioneer in Negro education in Arkansas.
