Professor Henry Clay Yerger (born December 4, 1860, near Spring Hill, Arkansas) was the son of Sally Yerger and the stepson of Anthony Yerger.
He married Miss Ella J.
Green and to this union eight children were born, five boys and three girls.
He came to Hope in 1886 and took charge of the Hope Colored Schools, known as Shover Street Elementary School.
Yerger obtained his education at Philander Smith College, Little Rock, Arkansas.
He also studied at Boston University and Hampton Institute, Virginia.
