Herbert Alexander Gentry, popularly known as Herb Gentry (July 17, 1919 β September 8, 2003), was an African-American Expressionist painter who lived and worked in Paris, France (1946β70; 1976β80), Copenhagen, Denmark (1958β63), in the Swedish cities of Gothenburg (1963β65), Stockholm (1965β76; 2001β03), and MalmΓΆ (1980β2001), and in New York City (1970β2000) as a permanent resident of the Hotel Chelsea.
