- He played college football at the University of Tulsa for one season and at the University of Oklahoma for three seasons.
- Paine was named to the All-Missouri Valley Conference first team while at Tulsa, and he was twice named to all-conference first teams while at Oklahoma.
- After college, Paine played professional football for one season with the Chicago Hornets of the All-America Football Conference.
