About Iñaki Urlezaga

  • Iñaki Urlezaga is an Argentine ballet dancer. Born in La Plata, Argentina, he trained in his native city and at the "Instituto Superior de Arte of the Columbus Theatre of Buenos Aires".
  • He was apprenticed at the New York City Ballet and was refined with Laura Alonso.He joined the ballet Teatro Argentino de La Plata led by Esmeralda Agoglia and in 1993 in the Columbus Ballet where he was the first figure.
  • He has danced in Europe, South America, Central America and the US.In 1995 he joined the Royal Ballet of London at the invitation of Sir Anthony Dowell, where he danced until 2005 in all his seasons of Covent Garden.
  • In 1999 he received the Konex Award in recognition as one of the best dancers of the decade in Argentina. In 2005 he joined as a guest dancer in the Het National Ballet, invited by the artistic director Ted Brandsen.
  • It officially debuts in 2006 with the Swan Lake in the Het Muziektheater Opera House.
  • In 2006, she was the figure chosen to close the dance season at the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires until its reopening in the bicentennial. He formed his own company, Ballet Concert, and served as choreographer. He has performed several choreographies, such as Sylvia with music by Delibes, Floralis with music by Prokofiev; Danzaria with music by Vivaldi; Constanza with music by Chopin, Nutcracker; La Traviata with music by Verdi; Tales of Chopin, God Pay and The Swan Lake. In 2009 he premiered La Traviata in the province of Salta and immediately in Buenos Aires.
  • In 2010 he was invited as Argentine cultural ambassador to the Shanghai Expo; by the Ministry of Culture of Argentina.
  • In 2010 he premieres Nutcracker with his own choreography. En el año 2013 comienza el proyecto “Con más danza, más desarrollo social”; una propuesta del Ministerio de Desarrollo Social para formar el cuerpo de Ballet Nacional del cual fue primer bailarin, coreógrafo y director artistico.
  • En 2018 el estado argentino cierra el Ballet Nacional.
