About James Sutcliffe

  • James Frederick Sutcliffe (14 December 1876 – 14 July 1915) was an English first-class cricketer. Sutcliffe represented Hampshire in one first-class match in 1911 against Worcestershire at New Road, Worcester. Sutcliffe served in the First World War.
  • In 1915 Sutcliffe took part in the Gallipoli Campaign, where he served in the Royal Marine Light Infantry, holding the rank of Lieutenant.
  • Sutcliffe died during the campaign on 14 July 1915.
  • His name is listed on a war memorial outside Portsmouth Cathedral and he is also commemorated on the CWGC Helles Memorial at Gallipoli.
