About James Walker (sportsman)

  • James George Walker (9 October 1859 – 24 March 1923) was a Scottish rugby football player and cricket player.
  • He was the brother of Archibald Walker who was also capped for Scotland.Walker was born in Tradeston, Glasgow.
  • He was educated at Loretto School and Trinity College, Oxford, where he matriculated in 1879, and graduated B.A.
  • in 1883.
  • He played first-class cricket for Oxford University and Middlesex, and represented the Scotland national cricket team.
  • At rugby, was capped twice for Scotland between 1882-83.
  • He also played for West of Scotland FC.After graduating at Oxford, Walker studied law and was called to the bar at the Inner Temple in 1886.
  • He died in Nether Auchendrane, near Ayr, Scotland.
