- John Matthews (2 August 1847 — 25 September 1912) was an English cricketer who played for Gloucestershire.
- He was born in Clifton, Bristol and died in Maidenhead. Matthews made a single first-class appearance for the side, during the 1872 season, against Sussex.
- He did not bat or bowl during the match. Matthews' brother, Thomas, played for Gloucestershire for eight years.
