About Les Bingaman

  • Lester Alonza "Bingo" Bingaman (February 3, 1926 – November 20, 1970) was an American football player and coach.
  • He played college football at the University of Illinois from 1944 to 1947 and professional football in the National Football League for the Detroit Lions from 1948 to 1954.
  • He earned trips to the Pro Bowl after the 1951 and 1953 seasons.
  • He was also selected as a first-team All Pro player four consecutive years from 1951 to 1954.
  • At times weighing as much as 350 pounds, Bingaman was the heaviest player in the NFL during his playing career.
  • He later worked as an assistant coach for the Detroit Lions from 1960 to 1964 and for the Miami Dolphins from 1966 to 1969.
