George Lee Thurston III (October 1, 1925 - March 20, 2001) was a reporter and writer.
His work included broadcast television, newspaper, and radio reports as well as books.
He wrote about researching ancestry and his family's ancestry
as well as on rivers n Florida.
His book on ancestry research has been recommended.
He was the first full-time broadcast journalist to cover the Florida Legislature.
He was also involved in amateur radio.
He had a fishing column.Thurston was afflicted with tuberculosis when he was 14.He wrote about the Wacissa River.
He wrote about the Rodenberry / Rodenbery family as well as other families.He and a colleague toppled the nomination of Harrold Carswell to the U.S.
Supreme Court when they uncovered a speech he had given in support of White Supremacy.He had a wife Maryjane and four children.He covered civil rights protests including lunch counter sit ins.
He cultivated a relationship with governor Reubin Askew.He is buried at Oakland Cemetery in Tallahassee.
