About Maritza Martin
- Maritza Martin Munoz (October 29, 1959 – January 18, 1993) was a woman shot to death by her ex-husband, Emilio Nuñez, on cemetery grounds in North Lauderdale, Florida.
- Martin was to be interviewed by Ocurrió Asà reporter Ingrid Cruz, after she visited her daughter's grave while the father, Emilio Nuñez, was there.
- Their 15-year-old daughter, Yoandra, had committed suicide in 1992 following their discovery of her being 13 weeks pregnant, and Nuñez had blamed the incident on Martin.
- Nuñez believed that their daughter had been abused by her stepfather and murdered or driven to suicide by her mother.
- Both theories were rejected by investigators.
- Yoandra had been raised by Martin and Nuñez had no contact with her.As Maritza was being questioned by the reporter, Emilio left the grave site and headed towards his car, where he retrieved a 9 mm semi-automatic pistol, returned and shot her in the back of the head, followed by several more gunshots at her body.
- The cameraman managed to film the first few shots while the reporter ran for the van.
- The footage was later used in the film Bowling for Columbine.
- It was also shown in the 1993 shockumentary film Traces of Death, and is available to watch on LiveLeak.
- The video featured on LiveLeak was taken from the Court TV show Anatomy of Crime. At the time of death, she left behind a son of eighteen months old.
- She was buried next to her daughter.In 2000, Emilio Nuñez was found guilty by a jury in Fort Lauderdale.
- He was sentenced to imprisonment for "25 to life" but became eligible to apply for parole in 2017.
