- He was a left-handed batsman and a left-arm slow bowler.
- He was born in Lahore. Umar made three appearances in the Tissot Cup for Pakistan Customs in April 1999, and despite helping guide the team to victory in the semi-final of the competition, did not participate in the final. In the same season, Umar made five first-class appearances, one for Pakistan Customs and four for Lahore City.
