About Peter Barry (hurler)

  • Peter Barry (born 24 November 1974) is an Irish retired hurler who played as a left wing-back for the Kilkenny senior team. Born in Kilkenny, Barry first played competitive hurling during his schooling at St.
  • Kieran's College.
  • He arrived on the inter-county scene at the age of nineteen when he first linked up with the Kilkenny under-21 team.
  • He joined the senior panel during the 1996 championship.
  • Barry later became a regular member of the starting fifteen, and won three All-Ireland medals, five Leinster medals and three National Hurling League medals.
  • He was an All-Ireland runner-up on three occasions. As a member of the Leinster inter-provincial team, Barry won one Railway Cup medal as a non-playing substitute.
  • At club level he is a one-time All-Ireland-winning captain with James Stephens.
  • In addition to this he has also won two Leinster medals and two championship medals. Throughout his career Barry made 37 championship appearances.
  • He retired from inter-county hurling in June 2006.
