- He attended Hyde Grammar School before training at The Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London. He founded one of Great Britain's top theatrical agencies, Plant & Froggatt in 1965.
- It became Markham & Froggatt, and later Markham Froggatt and Irwin, and is still in the top ten of talent agents.
