  • As a professional, he played for the Pittsburgh Steelers of the National Football League (NFL) in 1959 and for the Boston Patriots of the American Football League (AFL) from 1961 to 1967..
  • He was an AFL All-Star in 1963 and a member of the Patriots' All-Decade 1960s Team.
  • His 11 interceptions during the 1964 season set a single-season Patriots record which in 2018 has not been broken.
  • In 1995 he was named to the New England Patriots' 35th Anniversary team.
