He played at representative level for Scotland, and at club level for Hensingham ARLFC (in Hensingham, Whitehaven), Carlisle, Bradford Northern (Heritage ?), Salford Reds, Workington Town, Halifax (Heritage ? 1125), Widnes Vikings (Heritage ?), Leigh Centurions (Heritage ? 1194) (two spells), Swinton Lions and the Barrow Raiders, as a prop or second-row, and coached at club level for the Blackpool Panthers and the Leigh Centurions (Under-21s).
