- He played at representative level for England and Cumbria, and at club level for Hensingham ARLFC (in Hensingham, Whitehaven), Workington Town, the Wigan Warriors, the Hull Sharks and Halifax in the Super League as a prop, or second-row.Holgate played at second-row for Wigan Warriors in their 1998 Super League Grand Final victory over Leeds Rhinos.
