About Ty Zantuck

  • Ty Zantuck (born 15 February 1982) is a former Australian rules footballer. He is the son of AFL footballer Shane Zantuck and the nephew of AFL brothers Arnold Briedis and Robert Briedis. The 188 cm Zantuck is a strong unit, weighing in at 93 kg.
  • He began his career at the Richmond Football Club as a tough, solid defender after being drafted in 2000. In 2002, he was showing promising signs of finding his niche in AFL.
  • he finished 9th in the Richmond's best & fairest.
  • From time to time; he was chucked forward and kicked a few bags of goals; most notoriously scoring 2 soccered goals for that very season; against Collingwood & Hawthorn. Moreover, in round 21 of the 2003 AFL Season; Zantuck was chucked up forward; and consequently scored a bag of 5 goals.
  • This conveyed his versatility & being efficient as well in defence & attack. In round 18 of the 2004 season against Collingwood; Zantuck again was implemented in the forward line; and as a result booted 4 goals. His off-field shenanigans and drinking incidents saw the talented player experience a fall out with the club, and he was de-listed and picked up by Essendon, where coach Kevin Sheedy (who has transformed the likes of John Barnes into model players on and off the field) gave him a second chance. In the 2005 Anzac Day clash against Collingwood, Zantuck was involved in a pre-match altercation where his guernsey was ripped by an opponent. Zantuck was delisted at the end of 2005, and quite peculiarly.
  • He did not feature for the 2nd half of the season; and annoyingly too as he started of the season quite well with the bombers; forging a niche in the back-line.
  • Just for missing one rehab session; Kevin Sheedy's mind was on vacation. Zantuck played for Kangaroo Flat in 2007, then had a short stint at Heidelberg Football Club in Victoria's Northern Football League where he played in their 2008 premiership side.
  • After an injury plagued 2009 season Zantuck parted ways with the Tigers and moved to former junior club Strathmore for the 2010 season. Zantuck currently plays football for Strathmore in the Essendon District Football League.
