About Wayne Dessaur

  • Wayne Anthony Dessaur (born 4 February 1971 in Nottingham) is a former English cricketer.
  • He was a right-handed batsman and an occasional right-arm medium-pace bowler who played for Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire in a three-year first-class cricketing career. Educated at Loughborough Grammar School. He first represented Nottinghamshire in the Second XI Championship in 1989, but his Derbyshire debut was one of the most important games of his career, as he hit a century against Oxford University in May 1995.
  • It was surprising, therefore, that it was less than three months before he was to be shown the door, after Derbyshire underperformed in the 1995 County Championship table. Dessaur, who started his career as an upper-middle order batsman, moved to an opening position within three years, however, with Dean Jones coming to the team in 1996, Dessaur was unable to assert himself within the team. After finishing at Derbyshire he studied at Nottingham University gaining a degree in physiotherapy.
