- He was born in Smarden in Kent and died at Ruthin Castle in Denbighshire aged 77.Best was a right-handed batsman and a right-arm slow bowler who played five first-class cricket matches for Kent County Cricket Club.
- He made his first-class cricket debut for Kent during the 1890 season against Nottinghamshire.
