  • He was the son of Charles Lennox, 1st Duke of Richmond, an illegitimate son of King Charles II.
  • He held a number of posts in connection with his high office but is best remembered for his patronage of cricket.
  • He has been described as the most important of the sport's early patrons and did much to help its evolution from village cricket to first-class cricket.
